Country Days
by Debra Tate-Sears
2007 Calendar - 2062
Debra Tate-Sears is a storyteller, who uses a paintbrush
instead of a pen to take the viewer back to the farm for a visit with some
of the characters who live there. Debra is a self-taught artist who loves
the challenge of watercolor painting, and combines this with her love of
traditional pastoral landscapes and the simple stories found on the family
farm.
“Arriving at the beginning of a new millennium has many of us looking
backward as we look forward into the next century. We find ourselves
looking back fondly at our childhood, or the stories of our parents, to a
simpler time, a time when families were more closely connected. Often the
connection was to a common link like the family farm; where we grew up, or
were always welcomed by a grandparent or aunt and uncle on the weekends or
summer holidays as though it was our own small part of the world. A few
years ago, or what seems to me to be a few years ago, most Canadians still
had a connection to the family farm. Today, for most families, that
connection has been lost, but there remains in us the desire to feel that
we are still a part of the rural Canadian landscape.
We had a small hobby farm for a number of years, and this experience has
always been the inspiration for my painting. Part of this experience was
playing host to all types of livestock, large and small, that are usually
associated with a family farm. Doing the paintings for this calendar has
given me the chance to share some of their personalities with you.”
All Pine Ridge Art's Wall Calendars are environmentally
friendly, printed on acid free linen paper, using a six vegetable-ink color
printing process. Each calendar features a decorative wrap for protection, which
displays all twelve images on the back along with the Artist's biography.
