Great Outdoors
by Darrell Bush
2008 Wall Calendar
Award-winning artist Darrell Bush brilliantly captures the
unspoiled, simple beauty of the outdoors. From a North Woods campsite to a
polished wooden runabout resting on a quiet lake, Bush’s acrylics suggest
that these peaceful settings are only a memory away. He familiarizes the
viewer with outdoor and wildlife subjects often adding a touch of
nostalgia.
Born in East Moline, Illinois, Bush enjoyed hunting and fishing with his
family as a child, spending much of his free time outdoors. Subsequently,
Bush’s first painting as a teenager were landscapes and nature scenes.
In 1984, after graduating with a bachelor of fine arts degree in
commercial art from Northern Illinois University, Bush moved to Minnesota
and worked as a commercial illustrator for five years. “It was during this
time I began pursuing a second career: my true love, wildlife art,” he
said. In 1987, Bush won his first major award and in 1990, Bush became a
full-time artist.
Bush comments, “When I’m not painting, I’m usually behind a camera doing
photo research.” His travels have spanned the United States to as far away
as Switzerland. During recent trips to the Adirondack Mountains and
Jackson Hole, he was able to add to his expanding collection of vintage
hunting and sporting gear, items that he plans to include in future
paintings.
All Pine Ridge Art's Wall Calendars are environmentally
friendly, printed on acid free linen paper, using a six vegetable-ink color
printing process. Each calendar features a decorative wrap for protection, which
displays all twelve images on the back along with the Artist's biography.
